Students worked in partnerships to help me get feedback about the "Stars" and "Wishes" they felt about our classroom. They took a picture of one thing that they liked about our classroom and thought worked well. They then took a picture of something that they wished could be changed. They presented their mini projects to the class. It was interesting because many of the kids felt the same way about both the positive and negative aspects of our classroom. They know what works well and what doesn't. I just need to listen.
My 5 Biggest Takeaways...
1. Furniture isn't going to make the huge difference, if my philosophy about teaching & learning doesn't shift. (I'm happy to report that has already happened in a big way!)
2. My kids have good insight on what works well and what doesn't in our space.
3. We adjust the curriculum to meet the needs of the students, but we need to think like that about the space too.
4. Students should have ownership and input about the space.
5. This process has sparked my passion for innovative thinking and teaching again. This is JUST what I've needed and I am grateful!
